If you’ve never been to Texas and are planning on coming, there are several places to go in Texas that you will want to fit into your itinerary or you’ll regret that you didn’t. Depending on how you are traveling, solo or with a family, some of the following you may prefer to others, and some you may want to skip altogether.
Austin, Texas. For years, Austin has been dubbed one of the most happening cultural arts centers in the United States and has an upbeat, trendy reputation going for it with regard to its culture, arts, and the music scene. This is one of the reasons you want to visit, and not move there (places that have been artsy and trendy for at least 15 years are now officially expensive to live in). Check out all the historical hot spots, the Capitol Building, wine tasting, or visit one of the more than 200 live music venues to get a taste of why Austin is one of THE places to go in Texas, but don’t skip Sixth Street and the vibrant night life or you’ll miss the point entirely.
South Texas. Visit one of the communities like Brownsville to get a whiff of tropical weather with palm trees, daiquiris, strange birds you have never seen before in your entire life, and the temperate breezes coming in off the Gulf of Mexico. You’ll find other amenities, as well, on the banks of the Rio Grande, including plenty of historical sites, art and culture, golfing, shopping opportunities, Tex-Mex dining and more.
Fort Worth, Texas offers a revitalized downtown area with so many things to do you may need two summers filled with vacations just to get them in. Check out the place where the west was forged and the cowboy invented with attractions such as Sundance Square, the Fort Worth Zoo and the Water Gardens oasis. Not far from Fort Worth is the city of Dallas, which also offers much to be seen and to do, including museums, concerts, water parks, amusement parks, and in October, the world famous Texas State Fair.
You can also check out numerous historical sites all throughout the state, such as the Alamo, the Rio Grande, camping, fishing, hiking and swimming in numerous state parks, and more. Whatever you decide, drive safely on the big Texas freeways as you seek out places to go in Texas and check out places that interest you.
